With the new Blipshift sale starting tonight, I couldn't help but browse the models available and pick a few that I'd like to order, assuming I can afford them. When you live in Brazil, though, you never know exactly what you can afford until you find out how much Custo Brasil you'll be paying and break it down per item, so let's do this bitches!
But first, break for a Nova in a typically 70's picture
There you go... Anyways back to business. First we have to figure the total price of everything we picked, in this case, 7 shirts, 1 hoodie and 1 patch, for 159 US monies. Blipshift offers free shipping when you order more than 3 shirts, but, guess what, only in America, so we have to go and figure out what it will cost to ship all this expensive awesomeness our way. According to the shipping information page, the first shirt costs $11,90 to ship, with each subsequent shirt costing an additional $4,00, plus $18,90 to ship the hoodie which we're about to start reconsidering. On the other hand, the patch ships completely free when purchased with apparel. Score!
That's a grand total of 159,00+11,90+18,90+24,00 which equals... carry the one, add two, square root of 1024... US$213,80, AKA, a lot of money. And that's not all kids, since our purchase is obviously over 50 dollars, it gets slapped a nice 60% of the total price plus shipping in taxes. We still have to figure out the conversion ratio between dollars and pebbles, I mean, reais, currently at 2.2, then add in the 60% tax. So, that's 213,80 x 2.2 = 470,36 x 1,6 = 752,57 nope-reais, enough to make us walk away.
Also, that's the best case scenario. There's no guarantee they'll actually charge you only 60% in taxes. They could slap you with a nice round 100% and no one would bat an eye. And don't expect to get your stuff in 10~15 business days as described, oh no, expect to get it in 3~4 months. And that's assuming your package doesn't get lost along the way, which is far more common than it seems. In other words:

Custo Brasil is interesting because it hurts the rich and powerful in the most obvious way.

Well, it hurts us common folk pretty bad as well... Custo Brasil isn't too different from a protection measure, I mean, outrageous taxes and shoddy service put in place to make sure people buy Brazilian instead of foreign. The problem is that stuff made in Brazil are akin to cheap, low quality knockoffs, and aren't that much cheaper to begin with. Plus, there are some things you plain don't find in the brazilian market, for example, oversized clothing. I'm not exactly a short guy and I absolutely hate slim clothing, but slim clothing is what's in right now. Want something more comfortable or simply has different tastes? Well, fuck you, you get nothing!

IT doesn't hurt the rich and powerfull as much as you think.
The rich and not so powerfull take the chance and make a trip to other countries to do shopping. And in the majority of times, they come back and don't pay a single dime in taxes.
Only the unlucky ones are questioned by the feds and sometimes taxed over the products.
To be very honest, the taxes Blazing so very well explained are directed to the already screwed up people like him or me, that are obligated to pay much more for much less.
